An emotional cycle,
experienced in space.

RE/FLUO explores the feeling of returning to an emotional state you thought you had left behind. The team translated this into six stages: Trigger, Disruption, Surrender, Euphoria, Confrontation, and Aftermath.

Rather than prescribing a single interpretation, the installation invites people to connect the visuals and sound with their own experiences. I developed the Trigger and Confrontation stages in TouchDesigner and contributed to the project documentation.

Trigger.

A particle tunnel creates a sense of being drawn inward—the first pull of a familiar memory, emotion, or habit. The visual direction introduces unease before the later stages become more fragmented.

My work / Stage 05

Confrontation.

Camera input turns the participant’s movement into fragmented, pixelated imagery. This was the experience’s explicitly motion-responsive stage, making the viewer’s own presence central to the moment of confrontation.

Designing through
feedback.

Audience testing informed changes to how the stages conveyed their intended emotions. The team also identified the need for more consistent particle behaviour and earlier projection tests: imagery changed in brightness and colour when shown at installation scale.

For me, the strongest part of the project was connecting interaction to meaning. Motion tracking in Confrontation served the story by making participants aware of their actions and their image within the space.
